McMaster Sprint - Wed. June 6

GHO training nights are moving to Wednesdays for June! This week's event is a sprint on the McMaster campus designed by our own Liza Pye and Marley Taylor. The weather forecast is perfect, and it's guaranteed to be fun! This map was developed for the 2006 North American Orienteering Champs, so it will bring back memories for some of you. If you weren't there, you'll be able to imagine the excitement as over 200 orienteers ran around McMaster.

TIME: Check in between 6:00 and 6:30 p.m. Return to the finish by 7:30 p.m. at the latest.

MEETING PLACE: South end of the field sandwiched between Forsyth and Mayfair Cres. Here's the map.

DIRECTIONS:

From the east: Get off 403 at Main St W. Turn left onto Main St., right on Haddon Ave S, left on Sterling St, then right on Forsyth.

From the west: Get off 403 at Aberdeen. Turn left on Longwood Rd S, left on Main St, right on Haddon Ave S, left on Sterling St, then right on Forsyth.

Parking can be found in surrounding residential streets, or on Mac campus which can be accessed at the west end of Sterling, but will cost $5.

Remember these training nights are for GHO Club members and GHO Gold Card members, and there is no charge. If you haven't had a chance to buy your membership for 2007, you can take care of it in 2 minutes with our new online membership form. Thanks for your support.

See you there!

GHO Open Sprint Champs

June 20 @ Christie Conservation Area, Flamborough.
This event is open to all orienteers in Ontario (and from elsewhere).
Register here.
There is a fee to enter the park.

GHO Open Sprint Championships Update:

This event will consist of 2 sprints. The first sprint is about 3 km using the trails south of the reservoir. The second sprint is about 2 km and in the park above the reservoir. Both events will be submitted to the North American Sprint Series. Both sprints will use SI gear for start and finish and some of the controls. The courses will be open from 5 to 6:30 pm.

A novice course will be available if interest is shown. Also the trails south of the reservoir are excellent for mountain biking and the first sprint controls relatively accessible. Feel free to use this option for a training exercise.

See the maps above for directions to the park and the event parking and registration. Christie Conservation Area is located on the south side of Dundas Avenue (Hwy #5) just west of Flamborough Downs Horse race track. On entering the park proceed south to the T junction and turn west. Continue on that road until turning left in the parking lot, just before the chain across the road. Registration and the start is over by the shaded picnic tables near the dam. Please support the future of orienteering and make a donation to the GHO junior development fund.

See Who is Coming.

There are lots of maps so please feel free to show up and do one or both sprint courses or a novice course.
