Next Training Day - March 5

The next training day will be March 5. In the morning, we will run the THOMASS and for the afternoon, Mike Waddington is organizing a great work out in the same area. Barb Campbell and Rich Ehrlich have generously offered to have their place "open" for people to eat their lunches between the two sessions. Directions to their place will be given at the THOMASS and/or posted as a comment to this post.

Another good reason to take part of this training day is that, very likely you, will run in this terrain during the Giant's Rib Raid.

If interested, please e-mail Hans so we know how many maps to print.

Bob Miller: Fifth GHOer To Win

The depth of GHO was once again demonstrated at the THOMASS Ballantrae. This was the the 6th THOMASS for the year and five have been won by a GHOer (ironically, the only time someone else won was at the THOMASS in Dundas Valley). This time it was Bob Miller who was the fastest person around the course.

Overall, Mike Waddington is still in the lead with Hans Fransson just a few points behind. Results are here.

Hammer 10K Nite & 5K Lite - Feb 9

On Thursday February 9th GHO Canada GHO training (open to all GHO members) will be an urban adventure run. Park in the Chedoke golf course parking lot. The course starts at the bottom of the Chedoke stairs (and yes the first checkpoint is 'upstairs'. The full distance is about 10K (10K Nite) but there is also a 5K version (5K Lite). The map above shows a portion of the course. All roads and houses are in black and all lamp posts and lights are shown as orange dots. All of the checkpoints in this Nite event will be Lites. No controls or ribbons will be at the locations but instead you need to count the number of wooden, concrete and metal lamps on the course. Participants on the 10K are not permitted to bring a headlamp but 5K participants can wear a headlamp. Also no compasses allowed. The goal of this training is map memory (remember/visualize as much as possible when you have no Lite). Start anytime from 5:45PM to 6:15PM. Course closes at 7:30PM

Following the orienteering there will be a club meeting at 8-10PM at the WaddSquad residence (99 Bond Street North) with free drinks and pizza.

To reserve a map email Mike.

Another GHO victory

Jim Waddington was the fastest runner back at today's Thomass. Doug Innes had put together a challenging course at Starkey Hills, east of Guelph. Five to ten centimeters of fresh snow made the the race very physical as well. Results will be posted here. This was the fifth Thomass of the year and there has been a GHO runner first four times. Actually, four different runners; Hans Fransson, Barb Campbell, Marianna Weber and Jim Waddington. Overall leader is a fifth GHOer; Mike Waddington.
