Kerncliffe Training
No, the weather didn't cooperate, and yes, it's getting dark early these days. So we're going to leave the ribbons up for another two weeks. If you'd like to take advantage of this challenging training course designed by Mark O. Adams, just e-mail Barb at barbrich AT ca DOT inter DOT net to get the map.
Peak-2-Peak
The Peak-2-Peak returns on Sunday October 21, 2007. What makes this orienteering race different from others is that all of the checkpoints are normally located on tops of hills, knolls, mountains (peaks). The 2007 Peak-2-Peak returns to where it all started... the Dundas Valley. This year's courses will be 2K, 4.5K or 7K.

Ontario Championships 2007
The 2007 Ontario Championships were held in scenic Grey Country in the area surrounding Durham, Ontario. The Waterloo Stars did a good job in hosting their first Ontarios. The weather was hot for this time on year and competitors were quite wet by race end.
Marianna Weber and Serghei Logvin were the big GHO winners with 3 gold medals in their categories. Jean Wessel won a gold, silver and bronze in W55+, Jack Lee 2 silvers and a bronze in M65+, Fiona Adams silver & bronze in F12 and under, Dave Baldock 2 bronze in M55+, Sue Waddington won gold in W65+, Hans Fransson won silver in M Elite sprint, Mark Adams silver on the M Elite long course, Jim Waddington silver in M65+, Elena Logvina bronze in F35+, Trudy Deumer bronze in W45+ and Andrei Logvin third Ontarian in M Elite.
In adding to the roster of GHO racing families; the Logvins, Waddingtons, Adams, etc, the Franssons made their Ontario Championships racing debut. Isak ran the middle distance shadowed by Hans with Lia in the back pack. Adria ran well in a competitive W35+ field.
Congratulations to all GHO participants !!
Tuesday, October 02, 2007
The Wednesday October 10 training course is set at Kerncliffe Park (Tyandaga Hills map) in Burlington. Red ribbons will be hung a week in advance; time permitting, O-flags will be put out early next week.
Directions: From points east, take the Brant Street exit from the QEW, head north and then turn left at the North Service Road (first major set of traffic lights above the highway, past the Milestone's). Take the North Service Road west to Kerns Road and turn right, north. Take Kerns Road up through the Tyandaga Hills area until you are out of the urban area, then look for the Kerncliffe Park parking lot on the right. See the map attached. Coming from Hamilton you can exit at Waterdown Road and follow the North Service Road east to Kerns Road.
There will be one 5km course with many options to shortcut. Map scale is 1:10,000. Barb Campbell will be registrar, and will aim to be there by 5:15 pm, traffic allowing! Sunset is around 6:45 at this time of year so do not delay your start; course will close at sunset. Please consider bringing a flashlight or headlamp with you “just in case” (it will start getting dark in the woods earlier than this!).

Ontario Relay Champs
Gators hosted this year's relay champs at Kelso with start and finish below the ski hill. It was a beautiful day and about 40-50 people showed up. Stars was probably the largest club, so no surprise that they won both categories (the two categories are 5 or less Thomass hcp or above 5 in hcp). Not many GHOers were present but those who were there didn't too bad. Most success had Glenn B. who finished 3rd together with Stars' Michael L. and Gators' Sevastian I. A GHO team with Hans F., Anton P (who had the fastest time on the second leg). and Marianna W finshed 4th, followed by team Logvins.
