After a perfect weekend of weather at the North American Champs, the weather was poor for the 2006 GHO Eliminator with heavy rain in the morning. It cleared up for a few hours in the afternoon but it got overcast and windy with scattered rain by 6 pm. Twelve stalwarts arrived for the start including YOA members, Justine and Barbara Scheck. The course was set out with 3 - 1 km sections. As a handicap system there was boxes of 3 controls on each map though not always in sequence. Runners were allowed to drop 1 control for each 2 THOMMAS handicap points. With later arrivals, the competition was begun at 6:15 pm. After the first section, the top 8 were Barb Campbell, Barbara Scheck, Trudy Deumer, Justine Scheck, Nina Wallace, Marianna Webber, Kevin Tearle, and Wes Roberts.
The second leg was started with some confusion This section was a speedy campground loop. In the fading light, some forgot to drop box controls. . The top 4 finishers were Kevin Tearle, Wes Roberts, Nina Wallace and Justine Scheck.
The 3rd section was quickly started as the light was failing quickly and the weather was blustery. Some of the eliminated runners had better final runs. Congratulations to Kevin Tearle the 2006 Eliminator Champion. Kevin started orienteering just a few weeks ago. Below are the final finishing positions.
